There are many ways to help out disabled athletes. One way to help out is to make a financial contributions. Skiing really helps people with disabilities stay active during the winter, but it can be an expensive sport to get into, especially when special gear such as sit-skis are needed. Please consider a donation! And note - anyone is welcome to donate this way, i.e., not just club members.

2025 Invictus Games Thank You

In February 2025, wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from approximately 20 nations participated in the first-ever hybrid Invictus Games to include winter events, including cross-country skiing and biathlon. Competing in these events was in four categories of skiers: sit-ski, standing, vision-impaired, and open.

The Invictus Organizers were incredibly appreciative of the help provided by Nordic Racers volunteers. See below for a thankyou received from them:

Dear Philip, Phil & the Nordic Racers,

I wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to you and everyone involved from the Nordic Racers.

At IG2025, our aim was to deliver the best, most impactful, first ever winter-hybrid Games. Collectively we went above and beyond to deliver that and so much more. With 11 sports, 6 of them brand new for IG, across 6 world class venues in 2 host cities the task was huge. I am very proud of the collective efforts of IG2025 and all the Sport Organisations we worked with. To be able to sit here and say that all the 11 sports were delivered on schedule, without any major issues is remarkable. By delivering against our aims, we collectively set the stage for 535 competitors, from around the world, to come together with their comrades and celebrate their own unique recovery journey in front of their friends & family who were cheering them on. I hope you all got to witness moments of magic in action. It is important to reflect and take note of the fact that we have just been part of changing the lives of all of the competitors and friends & family who attended, but also, of all those that were able to be inspired by the Games; from spectators to volunteers, from those who need a reminder of what can be achieved with some determination, resilience and hope, to those new to an injury or illness that are now inspired to try adaptive sport, from those hard to reach veterans and service personnel who may have seen something that gives them the courage to take the next steps in their recovery journey to so many more.

It is also worth reflecting on how the collaboration between IG2025 and each single sport organisation has enabled a true legacy to be created by these Games. By Working closely with each sport organisation within the planning phases, we were able to identify potential gaps in the scope of adaptive equipment, officials and venue accessibility required to deliver adaptive sport at this level. We are thankful to the work with the Province of BC, Via Sport and Whistler Blackcomb Grant Foundation to enable valuable funding opportunities to be opened that helped obtain the required adaptive equipment, training and venue upgrades required to not only deliver IG2025, but to also make improvements in the adaptive sport capacity in BC. People will benefit from these investments long beyond the Games. This is something I am extremely proud of being part of.

All of this would not have been possible without our collaboration with the Nordic Racers. A huge thank you to all your team involved. Every single person who contributed to the planning and delivery of the Games did so with unwavering professionalism, attention to detail and passion for the purpose. Specifically, a huge thank you for all the work and support provided to Monica on the development of the training day experience and coaches.

Personally, I would also like to thank you for the support shown to myself and the sport team throughout the last 18 months. I speak on behalf of the entire sports team when I say that we have learnt so much from the expertise provided by you and all those from the Nordic Racers. For example, I have learned so much about the Canadian sport structure, including adaptive sport delivery here in BC and the intricacies and detail required for delivering 6 new winter sports in a hybrid game setting alongside key professional developments regarding relationship management and operational planning. Thank you for joining us on this ride!

Once again, a huge thank you on behalf of myself, the sport team and the wider IG2025 Organising Committee! I hope our paths cross again in the future.

Best wishes
Amy
