There are many ways to help out disabled athletes. One way to help out is to make a financial contributions. Skiing really helps people with disabilities stay active during the winter, but it can be an expensive sport to get into, especially when special gear such as sit-skis are needed. Please consider a donation! And note - anyone is welcome to donate this way, i.e., not just club members.
Information for volunteers for 2025 Invictus Games
The Nordic Racers Para-Nordic Program is seeking volunteers to join a team of coaching assistants and technical specialists to support competitors in the cross-country ski events at the 2025 Invictus Games at Whistler Olympic Park.
In February 2025, wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from approximately 20 nations will participate in the first-ever hybrid Invictus Games to include winter events, including cross-country skiing and biathlon. Competing in these events will be four categories of skiers: sit-ski, standing, vision-impaired, and open.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help competitors perform their best in the cross-country ski events as part of their journey to rehabilitation and recovery.
We’re looking for volunteers with a range of qualifications, specifically NCCP or CANSI certification and/or training and experience working with athletes with disabilities and guiding blind and vision-impaired skiers. We’re also looking for wax technicians and equipment specialists, including adaptive ski equipment. Finally, we welcome volunteers who may not have the above training and experience but are interested in becoming involved in adaptive cross-country skiing.
For more information, please e-mail adaptive@nordicracers.ca with your full name and e-mail address. We will then contact you about registration, training and the events themselves.
In the meantime, save the following dates!
February 10, 2025 --Training Day
We’ll be helping competitors prepare for the cross-country ski races. We will help them with waxing skis and preparing their equipment, making sure they are completely familiar with the course and race rules. We’ll also provide tips on skiing technique and race strategy.
February 11, 2025 --Competition Day
We’ll return the next day to help Invictus competitors perform their best in the cross-country ski races and provide support on the course where needed.
In advance of these dates, we’ll hold special training sessions for all our volunteers to ensure they are ready to fully support the Invictus competitors.
