The Nordic Racers hosted deaf and hard of hearing students for a Learn to Ski Day at Whistler Olympic Park on Saturday, March 11, 2017. With the help of two professional and one student interpreter and our instructor Jenn Wildi (a former junior Nordic Racer), seven students from countries as far away as Iran and Mexico lived a day in a snow globe learning how to classic ski. There were many smiles, thank you’s, and “I’ll be backs!”

Canada has never sent a deaf cross country skier to the Deaflympics, but perhaps this is just the beginning!

Thanks to the BC Deaf Sports Federation for providing funding, Coast Adventures for providing transportation, and Whistler Olympic Park who supported the day with trail tickets, equipment, and meeting space. Special thanks to Maia Engeli, who with her fresh Level 1 CANSI training, raised over $100 for the deaf and hard of hearing clinic by giving mini ski lessons to the Vancouver Skiers. Way to go Maia!
