These are the “Wednesday Night” lessons long time members are familiar with. Teaching a mix of both classic and skate techniques.
For experienced skiers and racers who want a season long skate and classic program that focuses on race training and technique instruction.
Includes registration for the Tuesday Night Races
Program Length – 13 weeks (approx), starts when night skiing at Cypress opens and runs until night skiing ends.
Technique – An even mix of both skate and classic.
Tuesday Nights – 6:30 – 8:00. Focus on intensity training and race strategies which involves participation in the Tuesday Night Races at Cypress.
Wednesday Nights – 6:30 – 8:30. Focus on technique instruction, drills and intensity intervals.
Weekend Training– Informal, optional and on your own, but expected and highly recommended. Individual training plans will be developed.
Led by coach Jamie Stirling, whose credits include CANSI level 3 Instructor, NCCP level 3 coach and who competed as a guide in the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics. Jamie has never met a hill he doesn’t want to climb. Contact Jamie if you have any questions.
Joy of Skating
NEW THIS SEASON
For intermediate to advanced skate skiers who are beyond Learn to Loppet (technique focused) but aren’t ready for the intensity of the Masters. Focus on skiing for fitness through self-paced intervals, aerobic endurance training and personal technique improvement.

Program Length – 10 weeks. Starts Wednesday January 4th
Technique – Skate only.
Wednesday Nights – 7:00-8:30
Weekend Training– We may organize some Saturday morning sessions, including video-analysis at Whistler Olympic Park and a ski tour at Dakota Ridge.

Learn to Loppet
This program has intermediate, advanced and beginner levels for people who want to tackle a Loppet. Intermediate and advanced levels are for experienced skiers that don’t want to commit to the longer weekly programs that we offer.Beginner level is for people who have skied several times, understand the basics and can ski up to Hollyburn Lodge (even slowly) in one go.
$110 for one session
$220 for two sessions
Session Length – 5 weeks
Session 1 – Jan 4th to Feb 1
Session 2 – Feb 8 to Mar 8
Techniques – Choose either Classic or Skate
Wednesday Nights – 6:30-8:30. The group meets in the brown bag room in the base area and you should be ready to ski at 6:30 sharp. That means parking by 6:15.

After your Wednesday lesson, take part in Club Night and enjoy a well deserved free hot chocolate in Hollyburn Lodge and compare notes about your awesome interval sessions with fellow members. Fee hot chocolate is one of the NR member perks.
Want an opportunity to meet new people? Volunteer to hand out the hot chocolate tickets to members. It’s the perfect excuse to strike up conversation with people you don’t know. Contact Sue for more info.
Lesson fees DO NOT include trail passes. E-mails will be sent to keep participants updated as to what’s happening week to week for your classes. The programs run rain or shine and will only be cancelled if Cypress (and for Masters if the Tuesday Night Race organizers cancel a race). Check the Cypress web site or snow phone before heading up the mountain.
